In this collection, I recycled balloons from my childhood, I was a dreamy child, a hard-core collector and fortunately, I knew there was an entire world hidden there, waiting to be discovered; I always loved the illustrations printed on them, which is why I kept them between the ages of 7-15, knowing that one day the balloon aesthetic would receive the attention it deserves, and transformed them into bags in my 30's.
It is deeply comforting that this process unfolds as a collaboration with the child who held tightly to her inner world and refused to let it go. During the making of these, the child in me received validation from her adult self to continue making things in the way only I know how to.
My choice of materials loaded with associations and clear cultural symbols is an attempt to create something that speaks to someone at every age and change the way we are used to seeing things. I see these bags as a kind of butterfly a display case, like taxidermic specimens, an archive whose beauty will never be exhausted.
